What is Performing Me About?

Performing Me pulls back the curtain on the behind-the-scenes realities of my life in dance from my early training to retiring as a professor emerita in dance.

I share candid stories of demanding training, complex partnerships, and the difficult decision to leave performing after dancing with the Chicago and Cincinnati Ballet Companies. Beginning this memoir in my final year of professorship became a way to review and re-envision the role of dance in my life revealing how dance had sustained me throughout the ups and downs of my journey.

Even when dance took an intermission, dance returned in innovative and surprising ways. Performing Me is my testament that even a principal ballerina in a regional company outside the bright lights of New York City can create a rich and rewarding life in dance.
